Hancox D. Making the Move from Continuing Education to Continuing Professional Development. Phar J. 2002; 268(7180): 26-27.

The author shares a viewpoint on the value CPD has as a method of life-long learning. He begins by explaining the role CPD has in the lives of many different professions, then identifies problems with the current CE system including the lack of recognition of learning from day-to-day practice (i.e. answering questions, training interns) and from the study of scientific literature, as well as the absence of individual tailoring to pharmacists needs and the lack of assessment of CE’s impact on a pharmacist’s practice. He concludes with examples of how the Pharmaceutical Journal can be used to trigger CPD for its readers.
