Patterson BJ, Chang EH, Witry MJ, Garza OW, Trewet CB. Pilot evaluation of a continuing professional development tool for developing leadership skills. Res Social Adm Pharm. 2013 Mar-Apr;9(2):222-9.

Integration of CPD in courses to develop students as competent leaders and advance the pharmacy profession may help inform effective methods of CPD implementation. In this study, 7 students enrolled in a leadership elective course completed 2 cycles with a CPD tool and were asked to evaluate the use and perceived effectiveness of this tool for leadership development. Most students indicated that they felt most confident in identifying leadership needs, neutral in creating action plans, and mixed when asked if they would use this tool in the future. The findings suggest that students, and potentially pharmacists, need additional guidance in self-evaluation of CPD activities as well as increased awareness about CPD and self-directed lifelong learning.
