Konstantinides, G. Continuing Professional Development: the role of a regulatory board in promoting lifelong learning. INNOV Pharm. 2010; 1(2):Article 14.

This commentary discusses concerns regarding the delivery of CE, the vision of CE/CPD, and the regulation/evaluation of CE. It also discusses the role of Boards of Pharmacy in assuring pharmacists’ competency and the history and current state of CE and CPD. The paper includes information on considerations in the implementation of CPD, including the evaluation of the learning’s value, pharmacist acceptance of CPD, and the costs (i.e. training, the development of a documentation system, and the reviewing of documentation). The paper concludes that CPD may play a role in facilitating lifelong learning and continued competence.
